  • 2024 January 4th Week XZBRG News Recommendation – KTM Duke 390: Overhauling brakes & replacing the rear wheel bearing

Both KTM and Bajaj service centers did not have the new part so had to clean and reuse the old seal. BHPian SunnyBoi recently shared this with other enthusiasts Next up the rear brakes. I went to a Bajaj dealer and I got a seal kit for a pulsar. Pretty much all Bajaj and dukes use the same rear caliper so it should work, hopefully. I popped into the KTM dealership and got a couple of new front caliper bolts since the old ones looked tired. Once I was back home, I remembered I should have gotten a new battery belt as the one on the bike now was close to breaking. Oh well, there is always a next time. First step was taking off the wheel. I had never taken off a rear wheel before - I struggled a LOT with it. I just knew for some reason I'd suck at this and I did not disappoint myself heh. Hopefully, I don't ever have to remove the rear wheel again! Took off the old rotor and ABS ring. This is 9 years of muck hidden behind the rotor. Things weren't so clean on the other side as well. There was a TON of rubber powder? as well as melted rubber. With the wheels done, I focussed back on the caliper. I made sure I removed the pads and extended the piston as much as possible by pumping on the pedal as much as possible. I pulled out the caliper and found the insides pretty clean with only a few black flakes. • 2024 January 3rd Week XZBRG News Recommendation – New Cutter Sharpening Service Returns Lundberg Cutters To Like New Condition For Maximum Productivity And Efficiency

AirTrim, a designer and manufacturer of trim waste and dust containment systems, introduces the AirTrim Cutter Sharpening Program (ACSP) which returns Lundberg cutters to like new condition. Sharpening worn cutter blades increases efficiency and productivity while minimizing cutting costs and downtime. Worn cutter blades may look good, but without a sharp cutting edge they can miss cuts, leading to longer trim, higher bearing load, and ultimately shutdown of the cutter, stopping production altogether.  ACSP can head off these issues before they become a problem and keep your production running at top speed. The process is straightforward, simple, and economical, and ideal for paper film and foil converting, printing, label making, direct mailing and fulfillment operations, and wherever trim waste cutters are used. Upon receiving cutters (without motors) along with 2-3 feet of material, AirTrim engineers will examine the cutter and advise if additional work is beneficial. They will then sharpen both the rotor and fixed blades to create a new cutting edge, reassemble the cutter with new bearings, and reset the cutter blade to cut the supplied material. The old bearings will be returned along with the cut bag sample along with the reconditioned cutting unit. AirTrim will also enroll interested parties in their reminder service for future cutter maintenance and provide a rugged, compact wooden shipping container for future trim cutter sharpening if desired. AirTrim ACSP is a just one aspect of the full scope of services provided for trim waste cutters. Cutter Sharpening is provided with industry leading lead times and is backed by the industry’s strongest warranty. • 2024 January 2nd Week XZBRG News Recommendation – This is a sign that the motorbike wheel bearing needs to be replaced

This is a sign that the motorbike wheel bearing needs to be replaced, if it collapses first it could be a disaster. As a two-wheeled vehicle user, you should know the symptoms when a wheel bearing needs to be replaced. Wheel bearings that are damaged or worn out if not replaced immediately can cause accidents on the road. Like a motorbike that suddenly feels limp after hitting a hole in the road until the motorbike suddenly shakes at high speed. Symptoms of wheel bearings that have begun to fail are easy to recognize, as stated by Mulyadi Service Advisor Ahass Astra Motor Natar. "The tires feel like they are drifting to the right and left. Especially when cornering, it will be felt more and make the motorbike unstable," said Mulyadi. According to Mulyadi, many bikers still misunderstand front wheel bearing damage and a problem with the steering wheel. "If there is a problem with the steering wheel, generally when you turn the steering wheel or handlebars become heavy or even too light accompanied by a creaking sound in the steering area. "Meanwhile, if the front wheel bearing has a problem, the tire or rim seems to run to the left and right when used," he added when met at Ahass Astra Motor Natar. Mul also added that checking the condition of the bearing or bearing on the front rim of the motorbike is actually quite easy. "When the motorbike is parked, use the middle stand or paddock. Then focus on the front wheels. "Then shake the front rim with both hands. If when you shake it you find that there is looseness in the rim axle (oblak), you can be sure that the front wheel bearing or klaher needs to be replaced," he explained again. Finally, Mul revealed that the wheel bearing damage was apparently caused by several things. "Usually because we often carry heavy loads, we break through damaged roads or we often get hit by floods that almost submerge the wheels," he said. Therefore, driving behavior plays a very important role in maintaining the durability of the bearings in motorbike wheels. Remember, if the wheel bearing has a problem, it should be replaced immediately because it can make the motorbike unstable and dangerous at high speeds. The price of wheel bearings is also relatively cheap, only around Rp. 20-30 thousand depending on the type of motorbike. • 2023 November 5th Week XZBRG News Recommendation – New wireless sensor solution from SKF enables automated machine monitoring in hazardous areas

SKF has expanded its portfolio of Condition Monitoring solutions with the SKF Enlight Collect IMx-1-EX sensor solution. Wireless monitoring of assets helps predict machine failure before it can escalate into a serious problem, such as an unscheduled shutdown. This can deliver multiple benefits, including reduced costs and a more sustainable operation of equipment. The new sensor is part of the well-established SKF Enlight Collect IMx-1 wireless eco-system and certified according to ATEX and IECEx standards for use in Zone 1 and Zone 2 classified hazardous areas. The sensor works in tandem with the SKF Enlight Collect IMx-1-EX gateway, which is certified for use in Zone 2. “The IMx-1 wireless solution, in combination with our analytical software, provides state-of-the-art information and insight into the health of rotating assets, now also in hazardous areas, and further expands SKF’s plantwide condition monitoring eco-system,” says Fredrik Larsson, Condition Monitoring Technologies manager at SKF. The new solution has the same form, fit and function as the safe-area rated SKF Enlight Collect IMx-1. All devices have full compatibility, allowing customers to build a network of monitored assets across hazardous and safe areas. Key benefits of the solution include: one wireless condition monitoring eco-system covering both safe and hazardous areas; banishing the need for costly walk-around programmes in hazardous areas, which improve safety for workers and overcomes environmental, health and safety (EHS) concerns; enabling data collection from inaccessible locations; increasing the frequency of data collection for more critical assets. The sensor uses innovative measurement capabilities to provide advanced insights into asset health, including early detection of bearing damage. Like other IMx-1 sensors, they create a ‘mesh network’, enabling them to relay data between one another. • 2023 November 1st Week XZBRG News Recommendation – Schaeffler optimizes supply of ceramic components by building its own production facility in Schweinfurt

Ceramic components are used in key growth areas like wind power, rail transport and aerospace Investment strengthens Schweinfurt location; close collaboration with Schaeffler Luxembourg Establishment of ball grinding shop boosts Schaeffler’s flexibility and optimizes value creation chain One hundred and forty years after Friedrich Fischer from Schweinfurt first made mass production of hardened steel balls possible, a ball grinding shop is once again being built at what is now Schaeffler in Schweinfurt. However, the focus is now on ceramic balls rather than steel balls. These ceramic balls are used in high-precision rolling bearings for applications in key growth sectors like wind power, aerospace, and virtually all electrification applications. The blanks for the grinding shop will be made from silicon nitride at the recently acquired production site at Livange in Luxembourg. Ceramic materials offer a high degree of hardness, low specific weight, low friction, and electrical insulation properties. They are used wherever conventional materials cannot provide the necessary performance and stability and where there are special requirements for the electrical shielding of components. The ceramic components produced in Schweinfurt and Livange will be used in many promising growth areas like wind power, railway, aerospace, and medical and electric machinery, and will rapidly gain in importance in the light of the increasing electrification in all industries. Technology of the future at Schweinfurt site In January 2023, Schaeffler completed its acquisition of specialty manufacturer CERASPIN, which has been developing and producing premium ceramic products in Livange for more than 25 years. Following its integration, Schaeffler will then cover almost the entire supply chain in this strategically important area. The capacity to grind ceramic balls represents a further step in the consolidation of activities at the Schweinfurt site, in the ball bearing center at the headquarters of the company’s Industrial division. Dr. Michael Pausch, Head of R&D at Schaeffler Industrial, explains: “With the opening of the new ball grinding shop in Schweinfurt, Schaeffler is taking a great tradition into the modern age. Through his invention, Friedrich Fischer and his company FAG Kugelfischer had for the first time enabled the mechanical mass production of steel balls as far back as 1883. We are now expanding our capacities for the manufacture and processing of high-value ceramic components, allowing us to optimize our entire supply and value creation chain. The new ball grinding shop will allow a future-oriented use of ceramic products in our strategic growth segments.” First ball grinding machine in Schweinfurt 140 years ago For the Schweinfurt site, the establishment of the grinding shop is not just a step into the future but also sheds light on its origins: In 1883, Friedrich Fischer heralded the age of mass production with his grinding machine, which was…

  • 2023 October 4th Week XZBRG News Recommendation – Interact Analysis Examines Geared Motors and Industrial Gears Market

From 2022 to 2023, the global geared motors and industrial gears market is expected to experience a significant slowdown in growth. Interact Analysis' preliminary research shows that global sales of geared motors and industrial gears in 2023 are expected to be around $12.7 billion, a slight decrease compared with 2022. Of the major regions, the Americas market has performed better than expected in the past two years, but in 2023 demand for geared motors from the United States logistics sector has started to drop, while the market for large gearboxes used in heavy-duty industries such as mining remains relatively stable. The size of the European market (in U.S. dollars) has not changed much in 2022, as price increases have supported sales amid a weaker euro, but in 2023 the European manufacturing industry is facing an overall cooling of demand. The Asia-Pacific market for geared motors and industrial gears is expected to see another sluggish year after 2022, mainly affected by the Chinese market. In 2023, we observed lower demand from consumer-related industries and delays in heavy industrial projects, impacting both the geared motor and heavy-duty gear markets. However, export opportunities have attracted widespread attention from Chinese gearbox manufacturers, especially to India, the Middle East and Russia. The final market data by industry and region will be released in Interact Analysis’ ‘Geared Motors and Industrial Gears Market’ report, due later this year. Continued Localization Supply chain and lead time issues were a serious problem last year, so that many gearbox manufacturers have been motivated to accelerate the construction of local facilities in their key regions and build alternative supply chains. In 2023, although localized production seems less urgent as lead times have greatly improved and demand is expected to fall, in the long term we still observed a continued trend towards localization, especially from the leading gearbox suppliers, which have continued to adopt this strategy in their key markets. For example, growth opportunities in emerging markets like Africa, the Middle East, India and Southeast Asia have attracted investments. SEW South Africa expanded its headquarters in 2022, WEG built a motor factory in Turkey last year, NGC Gears broke ground on a new facility in India, Chinese supplier ZD Motor plans to build a factory in Thailand, etc. Some gearbox vendors increased business in India, as their clients move production from China to India, while at the same time some of the largest gearbox vendors continue to expand facilities in China (such as SEW, Bonfiglioli and Nord). All these local investments emphasized benefits such as supply chains closer to the market, shorter delivery times and improved local services. It is reasonable to assume vendors view localized production as a long-term strategy, rather…

  • 2023 September 4th Week XZBRG News Recommendation – Schaeffler presents new super precision cylindrical roller bearings with expanded application range

Schaeffler showcases entire spindle bearing portfolio Super precision cylindrical roller bearings: New cage construction simplifies pneumatic oil lubrication and leads to a more uniform temperature behavior Hybrid cylindrical roller bearings for even longer spindle and machine life The single row cylindrical roller bearing series N10 and double row cylindrical roller bearing series NN30 (ribs on the inner ring) and NNU49 (ribs on the outer ring) are an established part of Schaeffler’s super precision range. They are used in applications where the highest precision is required under very high radial load. One typical area of application is providing radial support for the main spindle. In this application, the bearings facilitate bearing arrangements with very high precision, high radial rigidity, and very high load carrying capacity. Favorable temperature behavior exhibited by the bearing courtesy of new cage design Schaeffler is presenting series N10 complete with new internal geometry and new cage made from PEEK (suffix PVPA1-XL) at EMO 2023. The optimized cage – like its predecessor, which was also produced from PEEK – ensures particularly low friction, a low noise level, and less strain on the lubricant, making it the preferred material choice for use in high speed cylindrical roller bearings. Further benefits include a longer grease operating life and higher limiting speeds. Unlike other cage designs on the market, the cage in the new N10 series is guided unilaterally on the outer ring, leading to a more rapid grease distribution cycle with lower maximum temperatures and to a lower bearing temperature level with smaller scatter. As a result, the non-locating bearing function is more reliable even in the highest speed ranges. Advantages of pneumatic oil lubrication The unilateral guidance of the cage allows excess oil to flow freely out of the bearing when pneumatic oil lubrication is used, giving a highly uniform temperature behavior of the bearing. The new cage is also designed in such a way that oil can be supplied both axially and at an angle, with the result that the position of the oil spray nozzles does not have to be adjusted when switching from spindle bearings supplied by other manufacturers to the N10…PVPA1-XL version from Schaeffler. One consequence of the modified internal construction is the use of smaller cylindrical rollers, with the resulting positive effects on both rigidity and the maximum speed capabilities of the new bearings. Hybrid cylindrical roller bearings with half the number of rollers In hybrid cylindrical roller bearings of series N10, the rollers are made from a high performance ceramic. In addition, the number of rollers is halved. This bearing variant is characterized by even less friction and wear, significantly reduced strain on the lubricant, and considerably lower temperatures in the bearing. When…

  • 2023 September 2nd Week XZBRGZ News Recommendation – A3 Report Shows Second Quarter Drop in Robot Orders

A slow U.S. economy and high interest rates have taken a toll on robot orders in North American, resulting in a decline for the second quarter in a row after record purchases in 2021 and 2022. According to the latest report from the Association for Advancing Automation (A3), companies ordered 7,697 robots valued at $457 million from April to July 2023, a 37% decline in robot orders and 20% drop in value over the same period in 2022. When combined with first quarter results, the robotics market in North America is down 29% compared to the first half of last year with a total of 16,865 robots ordered. This drop comes after a record 2022, where North American companies ordered 44,196 robots, up 11% over 2021, the previous record. “Over the last five years, we’ve seen a steady acceleration of robot orders as all industries have struggled with a labor shortage and more non-automotive companies recognize the tremendous value automation provides,” said Alex Shikany, vice president of membership and business intelligence, A3. ”After this post-COVID surge, however, we’re seeing a drawback in purchases, exacerbated by the slow economy and high interest rates. While many companies continue to automate, others just don’t have the capital to invest right now, despite their struggle to find workers willing to do many of the dull, dirty and dangerous jobs that remain unfilled.” The ongoing labor shortage, especially in manufacturing (down another 2000 jobs in July, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics) remains a key driver of automation. An increasing trend towards reshoring tasks here in North America is another contributing factor. “Record attendance at tradeshows such as Automate in Detroit this year show even greater interest in robotics and automation than ever before, but as these numbers show, not all are ready or able to pull the trigger just yet,” said Jeff Burnstein, president of A3. “When the economy improves, however, the companies who have learned about the latest innovations in automation and how they can help them increase productivity, deal with labor shortages and get to market faster will be ready.” Automotive vs. Non-Automotive Ordering at More Equal Rates Non-automotive customers ordered more robots in the second quarter of 2023 than automotive customers, with 52% of units going to non-automotive industries and 48% going to automotive OEMs and component suppliers. Both categories were down compared to the second quarter of last year, however, with non-automotive orders down 21% and automotive orders down 49%. The strongest demand in Q2 came from the semiconductor & electronics industries, followed by life sciences/pharma and biomedical, plastics & rubber and metals, with automotive components, food & consumer goods and automotive OEMs showing the biggest drops. • 2023 September 1st Week XZBRG News Recommendation – igus Introduces Affordable and Environmentally Friendly Slewing Ring Bearing

A leading manufacturer of motion plastics “igus” has introduced a cost-effective and environmentally friendly addition to its iglidur PRT series of slewing ring bearings. The newly launched PRT-05-15-PC offers a minimalist design that not only reduces costs but also contributes to sustainability by utilizing regranulated high-performance plastics. Slewing ring bearings are pivotal for rotary movements around a fixed axis in various applications, from packaging machines to assembly lines. However, for low-load bearing points often found in furniture construction and display technology, the traditional options, such as metal ball bearings, can be oversized and costly. These traditional bearings also demand significant space, assembly efforts, and ongoing lubrication for proper functioning. To address these challenges, igus has unveiled the PRT-05-15-PC, a ready-to-install and budget-friendly slewing ring bearing. “Our goal was to produce a light, compact, ready-to-install bearing with as few components as possible,” explains Marc Trenkler, iglidur PRT Product Manager at igus. The design follows minimalist principles and consists of only an inner ring and an outer ring that slide over each other without ball elements. Crafted through a cost-effective injection-molding process, the bearing is entirely made from lightweight high-performance plastic, eliminating the need for any metal components. The PRT-05-15-PC stands out not only for its compactness and reduced weight but also for its swift assembly. Workers can simply fit the inner and outer rings together with a clip bearing, streamlining the installation process and contributing to cost savings. Moreover, this new offering is highly eco-friendly. With a remarkable 97% content of regranulated iglidur M260 and iglidur P4 high-performance plastics, the bearing aids in conserving valuable plastics that would otherwise be incinerated. This aligns with the principles of a circular economy and sustainability, while also promoting a reduction in plastic waste. The plastic used in the bearing is integrated with microscopic solid lubricants, ensuring low-friction dry operation without the need for additional lubricating grease. This not only reduces the need for environmentally harmful lubricants but also extends the bearing’s lifespan and minimizes maintenance requirements. Incorporating these innovative aspects, the PRT-05-15-PC supports the European Union’s sustainability strategy, which aims to achieve climate neutrality by 2050 while fostering economic growth. By combining affordability, compactness, and an eco-friendly approach, igus has once again demonstrated its commitment to pushing the boundaries of engineering possibilities and contributing positively to a more sustainable future.
